SASSA freezes accounts amid fraud concerns
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The social security agency in KwaZulu-Natal says no beneficiaries will be affected in the province, after the national office said it was freezing hundreds of accounts linked to fraudulent cases.
SASSA yesterday said it had identified potential fraud linked to some 2800 accounts countrywide.
It's asked banks and service providers to stop payments on these accounts for the July cycle.
Provincial SASSA spokesperson, Mbizeni Mdlalose says none of the accounts that have been flagged are held in KwaZulu-Natal.
"We suspect that there might be people that have changed the method of payment in order to gain access to those monies. If there are any beneficiaries that have any challenges regarding this - they can go to SASSA offices. They will then be assisted. The money will be available within 48 hours," Mdlalose said.
