SASSA fraud suspect in court
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A KwaZulu-Natal woman identified as the mastermind behind a syndicate that defrauded the South African Social Security Agency of over R34-million has appeared in court.
46-year-old Nelly Msingo and 13 other people from different parts of the country were arrested on Friday by the Hawks, SAPS and SASSA fraud management.
The Hawks found ID documents and machines used to manufacture cards and other equipment that can be used to acquire SASSA grants when they raided Msingo's home.
Spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says she'll appear in court again soon to apply for bail.
''Eight SASSA employees were granted bail of R5000, with one given R3000 bail. They are going to be back in court on the July 7.
''There are other people who were denied bail because we still need to verify their addresses and that case will also be in on July 7,'' he said.
