SASSA is moving to put contingency plans into place after the South African Post Office was put under provisional liquidation.

The Post Office faces two provisional liquidation orders that relate to rental payments.

SASSA management met with Post Bank management this week to iron out issues that could affect beneficiaries.

The agency’s national spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi says the intention was to ensure beneficiaries get what's due to them without any distress.

"Beneficiaries have the right as they make an application or have the right to choose any method of payment of their choice. If they want to move out of the Post Office and go to other methods, they are allowed to do so.

We as an organisation, make sure our staff, which our management has approved that they can work overtime, so they are able to work in conjunction with other institutions to make sure people, who want to open accounts in a general environment, they are able to do that."
