SA's move to recall Israel ambassador welcomed

The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation has welcomed South Africa’s withdrawal of its ambassador to Israel.

This comes after 58 Palestinians were killed in deadly violence on the Israel-Gaza border. 

Conflicts broke out after the US Embassy was relocated from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Internationally, the UK, Germany and Belgium have all called for an independent inquiry into Monday's bloody clashes.   

While the SA Jewish Board of Deputies and the SA Zionist Federation say they regret the loss of life - they say Israel has the right to defend itself. 

South Africans marched in solidarity with the Palestinian people yesterday.  

Numsa's Jerry Morulane and other officials delivered a memorandum of demands for the US to retract its decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.  

Speaking outside the US Consulate in Sandton, he says a US official declined to sign the document.

"We are dealing with a United States that does not necessarily care about the likes of people This is precisely why they do not care about whaty happened," Morulane said.
