SA's CPI quickens to 6.1%
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures released this morning show that the consumer inflation for September quickened to 6.1% year-on-year.

The CPI is a measure of average price changes and inflation.
Stats SA's Marietjie Bennett says this is 0.2 of a percentage point higher than the corresponding rate of 5.9% in August.
Bennett says the major contributors to the CPI figure were food and non-alcoholic beverages.
"The figures tell you what is the rate of change in the prices of services and goods that a normal household will buy. The 6.1% means that comparing to last year September, prices on average has increased by 6.1%," she said.
