SA’s Covid positivity rate inching up to 25%

Thousands of new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in South Africa, taking the country’s positivity rate to almost 25.%

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) says 9 160 infections have been picked up in the last 24-hour period.
Ninety-three more people have died, bringing our pandemic death toll to 58 795.
Active cases remain above 117 000.

The number of people recuperating in hospital has climbed to more than 9 500.
Taking a look at the provincial breakdown, KwaZulu-Natal has recorded an increase of 322 new cases.
The province has vaccinated more than 400 000 people over the age of 60 so far.
