SA’s Covid-19 positivity rate falls further, lower level of new cases

The National
Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has reported 2 597 new Covid-19
cases in the last 24 hours leading up to Sunday evening.
The institute says the latest increase represents a 10.6% positivity rate – the lowest since before the country entered the fourth wave at the end of 2021.
Meanwhile, The National Department of Health reported another backlog in mortality cases.
The department reported 86 deaths, 25 occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours.
This brings the total fatalities to 93 364.

Western Cape remains the leading province, with 721 new cases recorded on Sunday.
"The majority of new cases today are from the Western Cape (28%), followed by Gauteng (23%). Kwa-Zulu Natal accounted for 21%; Eastern Cape accounted for 6%; Limpopo, Mpumalanga and Northern Cape each accounted for 5% respectively; North West accounted for 4%; and Free State accounted for 3% of today’s new cases," says the NICD in a statement.
There has been an increase of 42 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours with 7 926 people currently admitted in both public and private health facilities.
