SA's COVID-19 death toll edges closer to 53 000

33 more people diagnosed with COVID-19 in South Africa, have died, bringing the death toll from the outbreak to 52 987.

463 new cases have been confirmed in the last 24 hour period.
The Health Ministry says infections in the country have climbed to 1 551 964.

The country's recovery rate remains steady at 95% after 1 477 363 people beat the virus.
So far, 269 102 healthcare workers have received the coronavirus jab.
