SA vaccine sale to benefit AU nations
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
It’s confirmed that 18 African Union countries will benefit from South Africa’s sale of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine.

Last year President Cyril Ramaphosa, as chair of the AU, established the COVID-19 African Vaccine Acquisition Task Team. Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says through the task team he can confirm the sale of one million Astra Zeneca doses to the AU.
The first batch has already been dispatched from South Africa. Our country bought the jab from India but rollout plans came to a stop due to efficacy concerns.
Mkhize says we’ve now avoided fruitless and wasteful expenditure thanks to the sale... meaning our vaccine roll out plans continue.
"Government remains committed to the protection of our people and this year millions of South Africans will be counted among the vaccinated in the world", he said.
"While government rolls out the vaccines we must continue with safety measures and wear masks, sanitize avoid crowds and obey regulations that are there to protect ourselves and our loved ones", Mkhize said.
