SA’s Covid-19 death toll breach 45-thousand mark

The latest Covid-19 related deaths reported across South Africa has seen the country’s total of fatalities due to the virus increase to more than 45 000.

In his report released on Wednesday night, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says a further 398 coronavirus related deaths have been confirmed, with the national total rising to 45 344.

 

The highest number of new deaths were recorded in KwaZulu-Natal (138), followed by Gauteng (97), the Western Cape (67), the Eastern Cape (46), Mpumalanga (21), Free State (12), the Northern Cape (9) and Limpopo (8).

When it comes to cases, Gauteng, the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal still have the highest number of infections.

 

A total of 4 058 new Covid-19 cases have been identified in the country, bringing the total number of coronavirus  cases to 1 463 016.

 

There were 39 596 new tests completed over the latest 24-hour period.

 

The number of recoveries now stands at 1 323 680, representing a recovery rate of 90.5%.
