This after KPMG announced that it had withdrawn a report into the so-called SARS 'rogue unit' on Friday.

SARS commissioner, Tom Moyane says SARS had not been given a chance to respond before the company released a media statement saying it had withdrawn the report.

"SARS has been taken completely aback by KPMG's abhorrent and unethical conduct. KPMG reluctantly announced the purported withdrawal of its report, despite the existence of a service level agreement - governing the relationship between the two parties," he says.

Moyane says the report belongs to SARS as KPMG surrendered all rights to it.

He says SARS will consider instituting legal proceedings against KPMG for reputational damage while also reporting the auditor to the relevant authorities both locally and internationally.

"The South African Revenue Service sees KPMG's conduct as nothing else but a dismal attempt to portray SARS and its leadership in particular as incompetent, inefficient and involved in witch hunt activity. It's the same narrative that has been perpetuated for years by some elements within the society and the media," he says.
