Sardines could be heading north
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
Durbanites might not have to wait much longer for the sardines to arrive. Greg Thompson, from the KZN Sharks Board, says the weather, sea swells and currents could push shoals further north in the coming days.
“The fish can still turn around and start heading north. It all depends on the currents and predator pressure. It’s difficult to try and monitor them though,” Thompson says.
And an increase in predator activity seems to have caused shoals to break into smaller pockets.
Meanwhile eThekwini's main beaches are expected to remain closed after shark nets were removed between Durban and Port Edward this week.
