SAPS pleased after re-enlisting officers
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The South African Police Service says the more than 500 officers who have been re-enlisted into the force is a pleasing gain.
The SAPS announced earlier this year it had embarked on a drive to bring back officers who had left the police force early in their careers, either due to resignation or being medically discharged.
More than 3 150 applications were received.
National spokesperson Vish Naidoo says some criteria included a good track record, no criminal convictions and that officers had a minimum of 10 years of service to offer.
"The actual deployment of these re-enlisted police officers will only be finalised by the end of February. So, while some provinces have received members in the visible policing, detective and support service environment - not all those posts have been filled as yet.
"We're hoping to finalise that by the end of February," he said.
