SAPS launches recruitment drive

The country's men and women in blue want you to join their ranks.The South African Police Service is embarking on a national recruitment drive to find the country's next generation of officers.

Spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe says those caught on the wrong side of the law or those dismissed from government departments due to misconduct need not apply.

"We are looking for disciplined and honest young people who are ready to serve and protect the people of South Africa," she said.

To ensure that SAPS enlists the right people into the service, all applicants will be subjected to fitness, psychometric and integrity testing as well as medical evaluations during the recruitment, selection and enlistment process.

Vetting and fingerprint verifications will also be conducted.

Successful applicants will report for training in January 2019 for a period of 21 months.

Remuneration for the Induction Phase and Basic Training Phase will be a stipend of R4,500.

The programme consists of three phases:
1. Induction phase: One month at designated police station.
2. Basic training phase: Eights months basic training at designated SAPS Academy.
3. Probation phase: After successful completion of the induction and the basic training phase, the police trainee shall be appointed as a member of the service under probation for a period of 12 months.

Minimum requirements:
1. Between the ages of 18 and 30.
2. Possession of a Grade 12 certificate.
3. Proficient in at least two languages, of which one must be English.
4. Prepared to take the oath of office.
5. No criminal record or pending criminal cases.
