SAPS defends Cele’s use of police chopper at ANC manifesto launch
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu and Jacaranda FM
The police ministry has hit back at claims of state resource misuse levelled against Minister Bheki Cele.
The DA says the SAPS should make Cele foot the bill for the use of a police chopper on Saturday.
In footage widely shared on social media, the minister is seen arriving by helicopter to the ANC's election manifesto launch in Durban.
The DA's KZN leader, Francois Rodgers, says it's an abuse of state resources.

“Those state resources, and that’s the helicopters, should be used for fighting crimes and dealing with the issues not flying politicians in and out of an ANC manifesto launch."
But, national SAPS spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says the helicopter had been deployed earlier to monitor the event.
"It’s not true that the minister utilised the SAPS chopper that was already there. The SAPS chopper is used in every event to ensure that it monitors large crowds."
