This follows the assassination of a taxi boss in Hazelmere, north of Durban.

The 42-year-old man was killed in a hail of bullets by unknown assailants outside his home on Thursday afternoon in Verulam.

It's alleged that while on his way home, he had called his wife to inform her that he is being followed and would drive past their home to evade them.

After a drive around, he returned home but was ambushed by the gunmen at his gate and died at the scene.

KZN Santaco spokesperson Sifiso Shangase says they're always pleading for peace and unity within the industry.

"With such incidents happening on our roads, it's very painful for someone to be assassinated in such a manner. Even though we are not experts when it comes to security issues the mere fact is that they are following you, it's a possibility they've been studying your movement, to an extent where they even know where you live.

"Then in that particular instance it is advisable that you drive to the nearest police station and if there is are any differences between you and someone else, the only best bet is to sit around a table and talk it out."

KZN police have confirmed they are investigating a case of murder.
