Santaco investigates former KZN taxi boss' murder
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
Taxi council, Santaco says it's trying to establish if the killing of a former taxi boss this week was possibly linked to violence in the industry.
Johnson Mbambo was shot dead at his Waterfall home on Monday night.
His wife survived the shooting and is receiving treatment in hospital.
The 55-year-old Mbambo was a former Chairperson of the Nqetho Taxi Association.
Santaco's Mathula Mkhize says their officials and members of the provincial task team will meet with the Nqetho community.
"As an industry - we are very saddened about such an attack. We understand as of last year - there was no lucrative position in the industry. He is just a normal operator," he says.
In Cape Town, a shooting at a taxi rank in Langa earlier today has left two taxi drivers dead.
Police say nine other people have been wounded. They believe the shooting is related to a conflict over routes.
The gunmen fled the scene and no arrests have been made.
