The taxi council says it's installed CCTV cameras in 70 of its minibus taxis operating in and around North and South Beach in Durban.

KZN spokesperson Sfiso Shangase says they've been receiving complaints from passengers saying they felt unsafe while using the taxis.

"We need to have cameras in all our vehicles, but we are negotiating different costing with different suppliers.

"Yes, indeed, they were installed in some associations in eThekwini and the reason for doing such was to ensure that we also play a critical role in ensuring safety in minibus taxis, especially in Durban."

Shangase says they'll the installation will gradually be rolled out across the province.
