SANRAL acknowledged for 2 Durban engineering projects

Durban's Umgeni Road interchange has been acknowledged among the top achievers at a recent engineering awards ceremony.
Roads agency SANRAL received recognition from the South African Institution for Civil Engineering for the project, as well as the Candella Road development.
The Umgeni Road Interchange project begun in 2011 and will be officially opened next week.
The Candella Road project was praised for it's 'green roads' initiative, designed to reduce the long-term environmental impact of road construction.
An ultra-thin layer of asphalt was laid over an 8.5km stretch of the N3 between Candella Road in Durban and Paradise Valley, near Pinetown.

The method also improves safety by increasing skid resistance.
