SANDF dismisses report of soldiers surrendering to rebels in DRC

The South African Defence Force has rejected a US media report that two soldiers had surrendered to M23 rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

According to the Washington-based publication National Security News, the two SANDF members deployed with the SADEC mission in the DRC are now being held hostage.
In a statement on Wednesday, the SANDF dismissed the online report.

Spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini stated categorically that all SANDF members deployed in the DRC have been accounted for.
"The article published by the faceless Washington correspondent is dismissed with the contempt it deserves. This is not the first time such unfounded and baseless news articles have been written about the SANDF since its deployment in the DRC."
