SANBS launches iron deficiency drive in KZN
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
A study by the SA National Blood Service shows that iron deficiency is the main reason why potential KZN female donors between the ages of 16 and 45 are being turned away.

The blood bank says this group accounts for 47% of the entire donor population meaning nearly half of all prospective donors are unable to give the gift of life.
The services Dr Solomuzi Ngcobo says they’ve launched the Iron Strong campaign to immediately assist those who have low iron levels.
"Once you have donated blood we will give you iron supplementary tablets to take every second day replenish the lost iron so when one returns they are not iron deficient ", he said.
"The campaign started on the 18 of February and we will roll it out for 3 months here in KZN while closely monitoring results", Ngcobo said.
