SANBS calls for blood donations
The SANBS says it needs to maintain a bloodstock level of
five days for each blood group to ensure availability for patients who need
blood and currently it is now running on less than three days of stock.
The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is pleading with the public to donate blood as stocks are running critically low.
The SANBS says it needs to maintain a bloodstock level of five days for each blood group to ensure availability for patients who need blood and currently it is now running on less than three days of stock.
"Throughout November and December, we experienced very low bloodstock, we struggled with blood donors coming in at the moment we are on less than three days bloodstock and the situation is dire and we really need help from South Africans," says the SANBS’s Khensani Mahlangu.

"Blood donation could mean the difference between life and death for someone, we have people who receive blood transfusion for chronic illnesses. If you take that 15 minutes of your time and donate blood you will have a completely different perspective on blood donations" adds Mahlangu.
