SANBS appeals for more blood donations
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
The SA National Blood Services says it is trying to collect as much blood as possible before the school holidays next month.

The service is launching a nationwide call for donors to come forward. The blood bank has been facing a major shortage in recent weeks, especially the universal O blood type.
KZN currently has about 1-point-9 days stock - a far cry from the recommended 5 days supply. SANBS KZN spokesperson, Sifiso Khoza, says although emergency operations have resumed cancer patients and pregnant women remain the most at risk.
"We will be at all major malls on both Saturday and Sunday", he said.
"All our fixed sites are open from 9am till 2pm. The schools are allowing us to come through but on the last week of May we will not be able to as it will be examination time", Khoza said.
