SAMWU wants NDZ to outline safety standards for municipalities
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) says Cooperative Governance Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma must outline the safety standards for municipalities - so that municipal workers can be protected from COVID-19 infections.

SAMWU says many of its members continue to be exposed as there's a shortage of PPEs.
The union says there's still a lack of clear guidelines for some aspects of their work.
SAMWU's Koena Ramotlou says government has been quick to announce the return to work of more municipal workers and other public servants - without first putting in place adequate safety measures.
"Employers must ensure that the workplace is safe, that there are PPE and proper compliance in terms of standards of what must be complied with."
"They are expecting more workers to come back to work - it means we are going to have more numbers at workplaces and we have not agreed with SLAGA, municipalities, minister on the category of workers that must come back."
