SAMA wants answers on whistleblowing doctor saga
Updated | By Xolani Khumalo
The South African Medical Association says it's angry and is demanding answers over what it calls the continued persecution of a public health doctor.

Paediatrician Tim de Maayer was suspended after drawing attention - in a public letter - to the horrendous conditions in public health facilities, which he says are contributing to the deaths of child patients.
The doctor was later reinstated at Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital following a public outcry.
SAMA's Mvuyisi Mzukwa says it understands that De Maayer's facing a disciplinary hearing which could lead to his dismissal.
"We have written regarding this whole saga to the MEC in Gauteng to want to understand their interventions from provincial level, but also to understand the questions that we have raised in terms of who authorised the CEO to suspend Tim in the first place and also the investigation that must go into understanding why the officials ignored Tim's concerns."
