Salga says ready to meet with Samwu over wages
Updated | By Tamasha Khanyi
The South African Municipal Workers Union has rejected SALGA's proposed 3.75% offer.

It's up from the previous 3.3%.
SAMWU is demanding 8%.
The union says the proposals don't reflect the current economic challenges of workers.
But SALGA's new KwaZulu-Natal chairperson, Xolani Dube, says there need to be several considerations.

"It must reflect the standard of living, but also, it must also take into cognisance that there are some challenges financially.
"Hence, I am saying we need to have a sit-down and clearly outline what are the challenges on local government's side and on the side of employees. We mustn't perceive it as exploitation because if you have an employee that is not happy, you cannot then expect to have good results."
Dube says they'll meet with all relevant stakeholders next week to discuss a resolution.
"Samwu, Cogta and the municipalities need to look at both sides so that we can intervene appropriately."
