Salga says it won't accept another alcohol sales ban

The liquor industry says it's handed government a list of suggestions to help reduce the impact of a potential third wave of Covid-19.

If amendments to curb the spread of cases includes another ban on alcohol sales over Easter, the SA Liquor Brandowners Association says it won't accept it.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize warned last week that the country's on the verge of entering a third wave and that discussions are under way to put the country under strict lockdown regulations ahead of the long weekend.

The Association's Sibani Mngadi says if the liquor industry cannot afford another ban.
"What concerns us really is that we as an industry - we did make proposals to government what we need to look at containing the size of gatherings because currently, we are dealing with prevention of infection that may lead to a third wave.
"It is unfortunate that we are seeing media reports that suggest that government intends increasing those gatherings which goes directly against what is needed to contain the third wave and minimise it's impact."
