Salga KZN calls for audit into municipal officials’ qualifications
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
The South African Local Government Association (Salga) in KZN has called for an audit of the qualifications of municipal officials.

It comes in the wake of recent revelations about the suitability of a senior eThekwini Municipality official.
An internal investigation has found that the City's head of human resources, Kim Makhathini submitted fake qualifications.
A fraud case has been opened.

The local government association's Thami Ntuli says the verification of qualifications should ideally be done at the start of the recruitment process.
"We are encouraging local government or our municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal to subject all employees' qualifications to be re-audited so that we address the concern which brings a negative narrative about local government.
"We are also of the view that the ignoring of qualifications or the requirements might have been deliberately done since we have been complaining about the issues of cadre deployment."
