Sakeliga to proceed with court case against Covid lockdown
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
A non-profit organisation representing business community members is seeking a contempt of court order against the Cooperative Governance Minister.

Sakeliga says the department failed to comply with a previous ruling to reveal the reasons for sweeping Covid-19 lockdowns and tough restrictions in 2020.
The country was placed under a National State of Disaster to curb the spread of the virus.
Sakeliga's Piet le Roux says little is known about the decision-making process that led to strict lockdowns being extended.

He says they want Minister Thembi Nkadimeng to make those records public:
“That was unprecedented state intervention, caused millions to be unemployed, caused billions of rands in job losses and severe distress with unpublished assessments and a non-transparent process.
“Sakeliga wishes to ensure that this cannot happen again, and so we are keeping at our court process by which we first want to force Dr (Nkosazana) Dlamini-Zuma and now, because she has been succeeded by Ms Thembi Nkadimeng, as Minister of Cogta to release to us all the records of the decisions at that time.”
