SAJBD welcomes release of two SA hostages in Gaza

The South African Jewish Board of Deputies has welcomed the release of two South African-born hostages who were held by militant group Hamas in Gaza.

Channa Peri, who is a mother of three, was taken during the surprise attack on Israel on October 7th.
One of her sons, Roey, was killed during the attack, while her other son, Yadav, is still being held hostage.

Another South African, Aviva, was kidnapped, together with her American husband, Keith, who is still being held.
Their release forms part of a four-day truce deal between Israel and Hamas.
"We thank the government of Qatar, Egypt, Israel and the USA for facilitating the ceasefire and the release of hostages, including the two South Africans,” says the SAJBD’s national director Wendy Kahn.
