SAHRC wants Edward Zuma jailed
The South African Human Rights Commission wants Edward Zuma jailed for not paying up for his derogatory remarks about Pravin Gordhan and Derek Hanekom last year.
The commission took Zuma to the Equality Court after he slammed Gordhan and Hanekom in an open letter penned last July.
In May, both parties reached a settlement agreement in which his remarks were deemed hate speech.
Zuma’s since issued an apology and effected a portion of the payment, but there is still an amount outstanding.
The case was back in the Durban Equality Court today.
The SAHRC has launched an application to have Zuma found in contempt of court and jailed for 30 days.
Magistrate Irfan Khalil expressed his dissatisfaction with Zuma's conduct, but pointed out that there had been compliance to some extent.

The agreement was made an order of the court and Zuma, the eldest son of former President Jacob Zuma, was directed to issue an apology and pay R60,000 in damages.

The money was to go to Umthombo Secondary School, near Howick and Ohlanga High School in Inanda.Zuma’s since issued an apology and effected a portion of the payment, but there is still an amount outstanding.
The case was back in the Durban Equality Court today.
The SAHRC has launched an application to have Zuma found in contempt of court and jailed for 30 days.
The commission's legal team explained that the final payment to Ohlanga High of R12,500 is yet to be effected. It brought the application back in October when it was adjourned.

Zuma's legal team asked for another adjournment, saying they had been unable to reach their client.Magistrate Irfan Khalil expressed his dissatisfaction with Zuma's conduct, but pointed out that there had been compliance to some extent.
