Updated | By Lethiwe Mdluli
The South African Human Rights Commission says it will investigate the death of a 5-year-old child who fell into a pit toilet at a school in Bizana in the Eastern Cape.

Commissioner, Andre Gaum believes Viwe Jali's death could have been avoided.
Guam says the department has failed to provide safe learning institutions in the Eastern Cape.
He is appalled at how the department is underachieving on targets set for the construction and maintenance of infrastructure.
The department said in a statement that it's doing everything in its capacity to address infrastructure backlogs, by prioritising unsafe structures and those without decent sanitation, water and electricity.
