Social Development in KwaZulu-Natal says extra measures are being taken to protect staff at its Uthukela District offices.

Ladysmith has been in the grip of violent protest action for weeks.
Residents want Alfred Duma Municipality Mayor to go - accusing him of corruption.
Six cars at the Pieters branch were torched on Wednesday night.

The department's Mhlabunzima Memela says this isn't the first time they have been targeted.
Social workers were hijacked while on call. They were also threatened.
"We need to take a lot of precautions and ensure that everyone is safe, but there is nothing that warranties what has happened to do this despicable act despite any frustration."
A Ladysmith resident says the unrest has affected everyone.
"All schools have been forced to shut down. Businesses are closed, trucks and cars are being torched, and there is absolutely no accountability. Yet again, water has been shut off for five days."
