Safety concerns delay election of Nquthu Municipality council
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Cooperative Governance MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube says they will eventually have to intervene at the Nquthu Municipality - whose council remains in limbo - four months after the local government elections.
Yet another municipal council sitting due to have taken place today to elect office-bearers was postponed - this time, apparently over safety concerns which have not been specified.

The municipality remains the only one in the country to have not yet chosen it representatives - because of political squabbles.
Dube-Ncube says it's the people of Nquthu who will be affected the most.
"People don't heed politics. People want service delivery, people want opportunities for jobs, and they want to be free in their areas, rather than for people to play politics at the expense of the communities. We will not shy away of intervening in case there is a need to do so," she said.
