Sadtu vows to closely monitor matric marking centres amid Covid-19 fears
The South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) says it will be monitoring the matric marking centres across the country when the marking of papers starts on Monday morning.
The union's general-secretary Mugwena Maluleke says the organisation has been working with the Department of Basic Education to ensure that Covid-19 protocols are adhered to in order to protect markers from contracting the virus.
The department has increased a number of marking centres to limit the number of people at the various venues.
Healthcare workers have also been assigned to the centers.

"But also, as an organisation, we are going to be monitoring whether the department at the provincial level have not cut concerns, especially when it comes to the issues of safety.
"Our concern is also about travelling to and fro, to the marking centres, we are urging our members to cut their circle and focus on their families as well as the marking centres to avoid a situation where they are infected or affected by the virus."
