According to City Press newspaper, which broke the story yesterday, Nkonzwenhle Mqadi - a Grade 5 teacher at Sophie Phewa Primary School near Durban - alleges that he bought the job from a union member who was also a teacher at the same school in 2010.

The article also alleges that Mqadi stopped receiving a salary when he was unable to pay the R1 000 monthly fee they had agreed on for the position.

The union's Nomarashiya Caluza says they are shocked by the allegations, saying they had not been aware of the matter.

"The leader responded in the newspaper, distancing herself from the allegations. You remain innocent until proven guilty. We'll try to get these two comrades, sit down with them and try to find out what is happening or what happened," she said.
