Public servants were given a non-pensionable monthly cash allowance last week, thanks to a wage deal reached between the government and public sector unions.

The cash allowance was backdated to April.

Sadtu says it welcomed the payment of gratuities at its National Executive Committee meeting this past weekend. But the union's Maluleke Mugwena says grade R practitioners are still waiting.

"The MEC took a decision that it will approach the labour court in order to deal with the differentiated salaries for the workers who are performing similar work."

Mugwena says this is to ensure that there is justice for the Grade R practitioners.
