Sadtu condemns school violence
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
Teacher's union Sadtu says safety at KwaZulu-Natal schools continues to be a concern.
The comment comes after a 17-year-old pupil was arrested in connection with the deadly stabbing of a fellow pupil at Nondenisa High School, outside Tongaat.
The union held a Principals' Seminar on violence in schools last year.
Spokesperson Nomarashiya Caluza says incidents are still occurring.
"We were happy when the MEC for Transport and the MEC for Education signed that memorandum last year to say the department of Willies Mchunu will be intervening and assisting the department of Education.
"Right now [the violence] is continuing and we continue to bury our learners. We are continuing to see our learners being stabbed and being gunned down," she said.
