The South African Democratic Teachers' Union
(Sadtu) says claims around the introduction of a Grade 9 certificate
have been misleading.
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga’s announced plans to introduce a three-stream curriculum after the completion of Grade 9 at Nasrec Expo Centre on Thursday.

Sadtu spokesperson Mugwena Maluleke says the minister’s statement on the certificate has been misunderstood.
“The Grade 9 certificate is just meant to say that you have satisfied the requirements of the senior phase and therefore you can proceed to further education and training.
“Then education will be divided into three streams these streams will say that you can go into: academics, technical or occupational or which is also vocational.”
