SACP wants probe into leaked report on political killings
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The SACP wants an investigation into the authenticity of a report leaked to the media, suggesting the shaky relationship between the communist party and the ANC is a big factor in the killing of about a dozen ANC councillor candidates in KZN.
The police investigation report was leaked to the City Press newspaper.
The SACP says the content of the report is poisonous and has accused the publication of insinuating through its report that the party was directly involved in pre-election killings and violence.
Spokesperson Alex Mashilo says they also want the source of the report traced, adding that the party will defend itself.
"If indeed it is valid, to determine who leaked it and what their intentions are and what impact they stand to benefit by trying to [scapegoat]. Under apartheid, when the name of the SACP was [scapegoated] the intention was to suppress the party and to persecute it," he said.
