SACP confirms Zuma wants to remove Gordhan
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
The South African Communist Party (SACP) has confirmed that it was informed by President Jacob Zuma of his intention to remove Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and his deputy, Mcebisi Jonas.
"We recorded our objection to the intended reshuffle," confirmed SACP 2nd Deputy General Secretary Solly Mapaila.
Mapaila made is clear, however, that they are not behind the media leaks.
"After the meeting an unfortunate selective leak to various media houses has distorted the facts, sought to create a public impression the SAPC is firstly responsible for the leaks, but secondly, has agreed to the intention," said Mapaila.
Gordhan and Jonas were recalled from an international investment roadshow, prompting speculation of an imminent cabinet reshuffle.
According to Mapaila, Gordhan has done an excellent job of running the ministry.
"Comrade Pravin has run that ministry with absolute cleanliness and that is what is impressing us. It is one of the best run departments. We should be emulating other government departments to be run cleanly," said Mapaila.
