SACE to commence special investigation into Nkandla teacher
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
The South African Council for Educators (SACE) says it will begin its own disciplinary processes after a teacher from Nkandla in northern KZN allegedly killed a Grade 12 pupil following an argument in March.
The 27-year-old Velangaye Comprehensive Technical High School teacher is expected to plead guilty to the murder of Mluleki Buthelezi in the Eshowe Magistrate's Court today.
The 19-year-old's body was found a day after he went missing.
Buthelezi and the teacher allegedly had an altercation at a local tavern during the Easter school break.
SACE's Rej Brijraj says they will start with a hearing to establish if the accused is fit to teach.
"We make sure that we are not having in the profession educators who may not have the desired characteristics to continue to be teachers. Whenever there is information that a teacher may have acted unethically, SACE has no choice but to embark on its own special investigation," he said.
