The union is set to lay criminal charges at the Germiston police station relating to alleged corruption at the airline amounting to R1,8 billion.

SACCA alleges irregular expenditure within SAA related to tenders and contracts with several suppliers.

The association's President Zazi Nsibanyoni says the board and management failed to execute their responsibilities and should be held criminally liable.

"The charges for theft, corruption, contravention of the PFMA and the policies of South African Airways. Those are the charges we are going to lay."

Nsibanyoni says they are making a bold move despite possible repercussions, because this is the only way to improve the situation at the troubled airliner.

"Let them prove us right or wrong - someone must take action. If we are wrong the investigators will say that SACCA was incorrect. Let them prove us wrong. Like I said we are not management, we are a union and this information was sourced with serious effort," she says.
