SACC joins calls for Zuma to give up presidency
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The South African Council of Churches has called for President Jacob Zuma to step down.
The religious leaders have joined the call from various sectors of society for Zuma to resign.
SACC president Bishop Ziphozihle Siwa says there has been a loss of public confidence and they are calling on the president to make it right.
The religious leaders briefed media this afternoon following a meeting with top ANC officials and said they asked the parties to assist Zuma in stepping down. The leaders made it clear that this isn't a vendetta.
Siwa also said as they as the Counsel of Churches did not accept did not accept Zuma's apology for the Nkandla debacle.
"We have not interpreted the apology of the president as an apology to the issues that were raised. For us, he has made an apology," a representative said.
The SACC explained that contrary to what some in the ANC have been saying, calling for the president to step down is not asking for regime change.
