SABRIC praises police reaction to KZN cash heists
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
The South African Banking Risk Information Centre has lauded the KZN police for proactively dealing with criminal syndicates in the province.
There have been several major incidents in the past month in which more than a dozen suspected criminals have been killed in shootouts with KZN police.
Two of the gun battles happened this week with officers preventing cash-in-transit heists in Durban and near Harding on Monday and yesterday respectively.
SABRIC's Kevin Twiname says there's been a spike in the cash-in-transit incidents across the country and the gangs come heavily armed.

Twiname says police have reacted well under the circumstances.
"Criminals seem to want to defend themselves by using firearms. Sadly, people get killed. Whether it be criminals or civilians, one does not want to see loss of life in matters of this nature. The fact of the matter is the police seem to be working well," he says.
