SABC should reflect lives of South Africans: Manuel
Updated | By Silindelokuhle Masikane
Former Finance Minister Trevor Manuel feels the SABC must make a greater effort to talk about the lives of ordinary South Africans.

Manuel addressed an Afrika Tikkun breakfast today where he also spoke about the National Development Plan and where the country is in terms of implementing its 2030 vision.
Manuel believes the national broadcaster is too preoccupied with politics and celebrity.
''They are stale celebrities - they are famous for being famous and they are getting the shows on television because its about the Kardashian pretence.
''It's that kind of rubbish that we are fed and nowhere on the programmes of our national broadcaster do we create opportunities to talk about the lives of people. Not politicians coming into the studio and say vote me.
''But constructing completely discourse of our lives and what we do about change. That is the tragedy that we are facing. If there's a campaign that we must have, it's a #HlaudiMustFall,'' he said.
The SABC wants content on its commercial TV station, SABC 3 beefed up to 80%. It recently introduced a rule enforcing 90% local content on its radio stations.
