Du Buisson says the union has received confirmation from the SABC Group CEO, Madoda Mxakwe, that there was a technical error at the bank and employees will be paid later on Tuesday.

The union adds it received unconfirmed reports that the embattled public broadcaster had a shortfall of about R700 000 that was supposed to be paid to the SABC bank to be distributed to the employees' banks.

"As a result of that of that short payment, the money could not be distributed. That shortfall has been made good late yesterday, but the transaction was too late to be processed," says Du Buisson.

The public broadcaster has however blamed the failure of payments to a technical error at the bank.

SABC Spokesperson, Neo Momodu, says the broadcaster was only made aware that some staff salaries were not paid, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Momodu denies that there was a shortfall and necessary funds were paid on time.

"We are advised by the bank that they have a technical error that resulted in the salaries not being paid," says Momodu.

She adds the matter will be resolved in a matter of hours.

"The staff will still be paid on the 29 of January which is today."
