Speaking in Parliament, the Minister has asked for evidence of alleged corruption and looting taking place at the national carrier so that it can be investigated.

He said there are currently eight to 10 banks that have offered loans to the state-owned entity.

Gordhan says the SAA board members must leave the day-to-day running of the airline to its managers and ensure they competent enough to keep SAA in the air.

Following the establishment of a new board - the Minister says the body of directors will be responsible for developing a sound business plan, strategy, and route review.

Dudu Myeni came under fire in the National Assembly - as political parties posed questions relating to her reappointment as SAA chair.

The EFF's Julius Malema has questioned her competence saying the financial statements of the recent financial year are yet to be submitted while the DA's Mmusi Maimane says her name was not submitted to the National Treasury as a potential candidates for the post.
