SAA partnership: Unions bemoan 'non-transparent' process
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Some unions say the process of appointing SAA's new strategic equity partner was not transparent.
On Friday morning, Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan announced the sale of a 51% stake of the national carrier to Takatso Consortium while government retains 49% ownership of SAA.
NUMSA and the SA Cabin Crew Association say they had been asking since last year to be part of the process.
Phakamile Hlubi-Majola is a spokesperson for union NUMSA.
"If we are to make a brake from the past then transparency is a key factor in ensuring good governance and in ensuring that the same problems which brought down SAA are not repeated", she said.
"It is also important to remember that workers paid a very high price by means of job losses through restructuring at SAA. 3 500 loyal, hardworking, passionate employees have been let go in the process", Hlubi-Majola said.
