SAA, Kulula, British Airways' flights grounded by SACAA
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
South African Airways (SAA) planes and Comair flights operated by Kulula and British Airways, have been grounded over maintenance concerns by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA).
SAA released a statement on its website introducing customers to an amended flight schedule.
It says there's been a decision to recall some of its aircraft to undertake compliance verification, following an oversight inspection by maintenance subsidiary, SA Airways Technical.
Some of the flights will operate later than usual and contingency plans have been put in place.
Two flights to and from Johannesburg and Durban have been cancelled.
"Whilst there were only four domestic flight cancellations, SAA took steps to combine flights and deploy bigger aircraft to accommodate affected passengers. This has significantly reduced the impact of the inconvenience on the customers," the statement read.
Civil aviation authorities have grounded Comair planes flown by Kulula and British Airways, also over maintenance concerns.
In a statement on Comair's website it said: “Affected aircraft may not be flown until the necessary corrective action has been carried out.”
“Comair have contingency plans in place and aim to minimise any disruption to its operations. We will keep our customers updated. Customers can check their latest flight status on the relevant websites – ba.com and kulula.com
“We do apologise to our customers for any inconvenience to their travel plans and appreciate their support. We are working closely with SAAT to rectify the findings and getting our flights back on schedule as soon as possible.
"Comair is committed to providing a safe, secure, reliable and quality airline service to its customers. The safety and security of our customers and personnel is our foremost priority and is never compromised."
